Sustainability
OUR COMMITMENT
Minimize our carbon emissions
Commit to reducing plastic and maximizing its reuse
Implement a Zero Waste philosophy: turn waste into profit
Promote processes that avoid the production of unnecessary waste
Promote the reduction and (re)use of natural resources in a conscious way, especially for water and energy.
Protect and enhance the authenticity of the surroundings
Provide food that respects the ecosystem and promotes health and well-being
Carbon footprint
Emissions arise from the production, transport and use and disposal of products or services. Greenhouse gases are one of the most harmful consequences for the destruction of the ozone layer, unbalancing ecosystems.
Plastic
Plastic by itself is not harmful, it is a material of great durability and resistance. The problem lies in its mass production and in the short time of use that we attribute to it and in the delay and toxicity of its degradation process.
Local community
The positioning of our hotels involves giving greater visibility to the surrounding environments in which we operate and, therefore, it is our responsibility to care for and nurture them. It is in this direction that we want to move forward.
Zero Waste
“We don't need a group of people practicing Zero Waste perfectly; we need millions doing it imperfectly” Anne-Marie Bonneau (Zero Waste Chef)
Garbage Production
Recycling is essential to ensure the proper reuse of materials, thus reducing the ecological footprint. But it is equally important to reduce the production of waste, promoting the use of long-lasting materials that are easy to reuse.
Natural Resources
The planet is overloaded and the natural resources it produces in abundance are not enough to supply humanity's consumption and absorb its waste. Therefore, it is imperative to guarantee the respectful and conscientious use of the assets of our “common home”.
Healthy Eating
We want to extend the values of a healthier and healthier diet not only to our customers, but also to our employees. This point requires ethics in the choice of our partners and suppliers, so that we can ensure that we consume sustainable products, of origin and type of production in line with our goals.
Earth Check Certification
EarthCheck is widely regarded as the world’s most scientifically rigorous Environmental Management Program, designed specifically for the travel and tourism industry.
The Program is trusted by more than 1300 organisations in over 70 countries. It is used to measure key environmental indicators such as: energy and water consumption; total waste production and community commitment.
EarthCheck helps to determine an operator’s, community’s or government’s standard of environmental, social and economic performance and requires compliance to internationally recognised standards.
In order for us to attain Benchmarked status, we were required to collect and submit a year’s worth of operational data to EarthCheck for Benchmarking purposes. This was then compared to Baseline and Best Practice levels for operational data of organisations in the same sector and region. This report allows us to get an overview of our performance, where we are out-performing other as well as possible areas of improvement.
By displaying the EarthCheck logo, we are signifying our commitment to the efficient use of natural resources, the environmental education of staff, guests and suppliers and the use of biodegradable products.
